If there are one or two things you would you change about your smile if you could, my team and I want to be sure you are aware of how easy smile improvement can be. When you visit my Boulder dental office looking to change your smile, we’ll suggest remedies that make sense for your appearance as well as your pocketbook.
Dental restoration is all about matching the patient with the most logical solution. In keeping with our philosophy that the most conservative treatment is usually the smartest option, we often use dental bonding to fix minor cosmetic tooth problems.
Tooth bonding is one of our most popular smile restoration options because it can fix such a wide variety of tooth flaws. The results are noticeable and natural looking, and we love the fact that very little if any natural tooth structure is removed in the process.
Bonding can be used to repair any of the following:
- Small areas of decay
- Tooth discoloration/yellowing
- Small tooth gaps
- Short teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Minor chips and cracks
- Old, outdated fillings
The Bonding Process
Our patients like bonding treatment because it requires little preparation and can be performed in one easy appointment. In most cases, no anesthesia is necessary. First, I will use a shade guide to choose the most appropriate color to match your smile. Next, I will apply a special solution to roughen the surface of the tooth in order to create an environment perfect for bonding, followed by the application of a special conditioning agent. The composite bonding resin is then applied as a paste, and then sculpted to the desired shape. I will use safe, targeted lamp to harden the paste into a strong, durable final form. Finally, I will trim the bonding to the perfect shape and polish your tooth for a natural shine. In about a half hour to an hour, your smile will look new and improved.

While dental bondings are inexpensive and easy, keep in mind that bonding is a cosmetic procedure. To address structural issues or problems with tooth surfaces that endure strong biting forces, you may need a more heavyweight solution like a dental crown or filling. Also, bondings typically need to be replaced more often than stronger dental restorations and can chip if too much pressure is applied.
